
Ingredients:
• 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon baking powder
• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1 ½ cups white sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
• 3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
• Assorted colored sugar or sprinkles for decorating
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Add buttermilk as needed to moisten the dough so it is soft but not sticky.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass and decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are golden. Let cool on wire racks.
